It's just the beginning

"aim above the mark to hit the mark"

Undergraduate Research Symposium!

Yet another amazing accomplishment added to my list! My topic was “Gender Bias in Broadcasting”, simply an awesome topic to elaborate on, since women in communications/media are INDEED held to much higher standards than men are. I presented my project about 6 times to different judges, and they all loved it! Working on this research taught me so much about things that I see in my daily life but yet never really took the time to analyze the deeper meaning within them. Also, I must say that my public speaking skills got better with every presentation, and in general this past month has been all about presentation and putting to work my public speaking skills..who would’ve thought I would use (and improve them!) to such an extent. Definitely another fun and amazing project. After presenting and answering millions of questions on the topic, listening to comments and compliments on how “well I present myself” it was time to see who the winner was —- Second place! applause* for me! Only my freshman year and already second place in the Undergraduate Research Symposium! Imagine how I was feeling, extremely proud, a bit disappointment because I was aiming for first place, but second place is not that bad! Got a lot of feedback on how to improve my project and just by participating we were all winners! Definitely an unforgettable experience, and looking forward to expanding on this research topic. Hopefully one day women in the communications and media area/workplace (and society in general!) will be viewed equally as men, work in progress I must say.
